scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Home Improvement'/>
Are Name Brand Power Tools Worth the Extra Money?

By Cris Nicholas

Why does name brand power tools, such as DeWALT or Makita, cost so much more than the non-name brand power tools from foreign countries? What are you really paying all the extra money for when buying name brands? Whether you buy name brand or not, both power tools can do the same job but which one will work best for you? It is you who needs to decide what fits your lifestyle and your budget. Are Name Brand Power Tools Worth the Extra Money?

If you are looking for a power tool to use on the job site then name brand and only name brand is what you should buy. In this case, that power tool is helping you make an income. When it fails your production stops along with your income. That is why it is a good idea to buy name brands because they are less likely to fail. Name brand power tools are better built with higher quality materials. They can take more abuse in harder working conditions than non-name brands. Name Brand cordless power tools have batteries with a longer life span and more capacity. Their batteries can run longer with fewer charges. Name brand power tools also have better ergonomics which increases user productivity and decreases user fatigue. On top of that name brand power tools come with awesome warranties that are good sometimes for years. Non name brand warranties expire the day you use them.

On the other hand if you are looking for a power tool to use every once in a while then non-name brand power tools would be best for you. Non-name brand power tools are usually imported from foreign countries such as China or Japan. Their not as high quality as name brands but they are a third of the price. Non-name brands are great for home owners who only need a power tool for “around the house” projects where they are only used 20 or 30 times a year. If they are accidentally dropped or lost then it isn’t that big of a deal because they are so cheap you can just buy a new one and finish the task later. A home owner could buy three non-name brand power tools for the price of one name brand power tool. Foreign power tools still get the job done and if taken care of they will last for years.

Name Brand power tools are worth the extra money if you are using them to make some money but if you’re just looking build a bird house then non-name brand would be best. Personally I choose non-name brands because I only use them once in a while around the house and since they are so cheap I can buy more of a variety of power tools to make my garage that much more versatile. Whether you decide to buy name brand or non-name brand, in the end you always get what you pay for and it is you who determines whether it is worth the extra money.

Cordless Power Tools For Your Needs

By David Kowalczyk

The cordless revolution has very well left behind the days when we used to use the corded gadgets and the power tools are no exception to it. You will find an array of cordless gadgets around you which are now a part of the day to day life.

These new age tools are coming up with powerful batteries (which simply keep reducing in size everyday), which has give them the edge over the corded tools. Now take your cordless tools to your backyard or garage or wherever their service is required without carrying the extension cords any further.

There are now a plenty of power tools which are now cordless. Now you will find a suitable cordless power tool whether you require it for woodworking, landscaping, homebuilding, tiles installation, painting, metal working, welding or any other purpose.

Whatever the application is, you will find these tools well balanced, handy and powerful as the corded tools. There are numerous cordless power tools which you will find in the tool stores. They are mainly:

-Demolition Hammers
-Diamond Coring
-Drills
-Fastening
-Grinders
-Hammer Drills
-Heat Guns
-Lasers & Instruments
-Metalworking
-Nailers
-Planers
-Routers
-Sanders
-Saws
-Vacuum Cleaners

The cordless power tools can prove to be beneficial for your use but they certainly have some limitations. The first drawback over the corded tools is the limited time the battery offers (this is really evident with heavy jobs).

You need to recharge the batteries fully before starting the work and if the battery runs out before your work is finished you will again have to charge it which might take upto 30mins. Moreover regular cleaning is required to your cordless power tools to keep it going. So if the job is low volume one cordless power tools is what you should be looking for.

There are various trusted brands when it comes to buying cordless power tools. But I would recommend you to try and compare the products for their balance, weight in hand, battery life, body shell, etc. before making your decision.

It is better to read the reviews and compare the products and then having a trial of the short-listed ones. The recommended brands for the cordless power tools are Bosch, Black & Decker, Makita, DeWalt and Hitachi.

Once you finalize your cordless tools and start working with it please be sure to wear the recommended safety gear while working with the tools. Most of the tools come with the warranty so incase you come across with any problem in your power tool do not try to service it by yourself as it may damage the equipment completely or may hurt you in the process, instead take it to the companies service station. Also make sure that you do some research to understand the specifications in a better way. Reading reviews on different products is also beneficial as it helps you to find out more about them. Such reviews provide you with complete insight on various products available on the block and also detail you with the pros and cons of them.

How To Buy A Power Tool

By Eric J

Power tools are very expensive and when said and done all the tools can add up to a big expense. So when buying a power tool you want to not only make sure you are getting the most for your dollar, but you also want to make sure you are buying the right power tool. You don't want to buy a tool that is pure overkill on power or even worst, underpowered. That's why when you buy a power tool you want to look at the important aspects of the tools and sometimes this can be confusing. One important questions to ask yourself is, "What kind of user am I ?" Once you find this out choosing the right brand is a lot easier. After you decided what kind of user you are you need to look at some important aspects such as corded vs. cordless, amps and horsepower, return policies and more.

Kind of User

A power tool is an extension of your hands, like Edward Scissor Hands. If you have the right tool and a quality tool, you can create or fix just about anything. One important questions you need to ask yourself is, "What kind of user am I ?"

If you are a light homeowner user, you can get away with a less expensive brand such as Black and Decker. A light homeowner user probably will not put a lot of use and abuse on the tools and power is not a big deal. Remember more power usually means more weight in the tool. Black and Decker designs their tools for the light homeowner use. They are quality built and inexpensive.

If you are not a light home owner use, but aren't a serious user, Craftsman makes an exceptional tool. Craftsman actually has other companies make these tools for them, you can see their manufactures through the source code. Craftsman makes a good quality tool that has a lot of features and good power. Plus they have a great return policy if something happens or you are dissatisfied with the tool.

If you are a serious home user or contractor, go with a good brand name such as Milwaukee, Dewalt, Bosch, Porter Cable or Makita. These manufactures pride themselves on making the best tool. They are constantly putting money into their research and development process to make these tools even better. These professional power tools cost more, but they are made with better technology and materials. They also have a better design that causes less fatigue on the user. Not to mention that these tools are made to last a life time.

Quality Tool

The tools mentioned above are good quality tools. I would suggest staying with one of the manufactures above for a couple different reasons, but the main reason is efficiency. These power tools will last you a lifetime. They are designed by companies who have been in the business for along time and they understand power tools. They understand quality, safety and what makes a good tool. These are more efficient meaning they can actually transfer more power from the input or batter to the output. This means less work for the user and less frustration. If you would like to learn more about the difference between cheap power tools and professional power tools, please see this article.

Corded Vs. Cordless

Corded power tools tend to have a little more power, while the cordless has the versatility. At least this is the case now. Milwaukee just came out with a new battery technology that might change everything. Cordless power tools are becoming more and more common as they are increasing their power, while lowering their overall weight of the tool. I would suggest going with a cordless tool because of versatility. The only reason to go with a corded tool is if you will be using the tool for long periods of time or the tool you are looking for has a substantial more power capability in the corded version.

Return policy

Power tools are expensive and I don't care how carefully any company watches for defect, they will always get one or two pass them by. You never know what will happen. These companies do a very good job and have very low returns on their products, but as a consumer you always want to be prepared. I would suggest going with a store who has an exceptional return policy, such as Amazon. They have been voted year after year as one of the most return friendly stores around. Amazon is also a good place to go because they have user ratings from real people who have used the tools. Just make sure you know your return policy from what ever store you buy from.

How to Buy a Professional Power Tool

By Eric Jones

Power tools are very expensive and when said and done all the tools can add up to a big expense. Hand Tools

By Cris Nicholas

Stop wasting your time with using hand tools when you could be using power tools that are faster and more efficient. Hand tools have been around for centuries and are simple but slow. Today we still have hand tools but they are old technology and out dated. Hand tools were all that we had until power tools were introduced to the public. Power tools are what built the United States and all of the cities in it were all constructed with the help of some kind power tool.

Power tools revolutionized how we did our everyday tasks. Power tools enabled us to get more work done with less user fatigue than compared to using hand tools. Power Tools allowed a person to get the job done 2 to 3 times faster than compared to using hand tools which allows more time to do what you want and not chores or work. Why pound nails with a hammer when you can use a nail gun. Why turn wrenches and ratchets when you can use air tools and finish in half the time and half the effort. I even know people that only take their cars to mechanics that use power tools because power tools will get the job done in half the time saving you money.

Then Power Tools went to the next level by going cordless. Cordless power tools allowed a person to go anywhere and everywhere with no cords attached. No more dragging around extension cords or being limited to working next to an outlet. Today’s technologies have made power tool batteries with 2 times more capacity and only 1 hour charge times. With 2 batteries and a charger, a person could work all day without running out of battery power. Cordless power tools work great for working on roofs because extension cords tend to want to slide off the roof or they are not long enough and won’t reach your work area. Little things like this take up a lot of time and will slow your productivity down.

So when are you going to put down the screw driver and pick a power drill. If you’re looking to use power tools on the job I recommend Name Brands such as DeWalt, Makita, Milwaukee, or Skil. If you want a power tool to use around the house I recommend Non-Name Brands because their a third of the price of name brands and still are just as good. Our whole community depends on power tools anywhere from cordless drills to impact wrenches we all depend on them and most of us use them everyday.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://dewalt-tools1.blogspot.com/2008/10/power-tools-vs-hand-tools.html' title='Power Tools Vs. Most men would trade their remote controls just to have the coolest and most technologically advanced power tools there are in the market. in fact, I know of one man who would instantly trade his car in just to have the Bosch 1" SDS-plus BullDog Xtreme Rotary Hammer. BullDog Xtreme seems to have stolen the limelight from many other equally cool power tools from other power tool manufacturers. Even brands under the same power tool manufacturer dimmed in light of the launching of BullDog Xtreme.

Not to mention, some men happen to think that the Dewalt DW723 Miter Saw and the power tool stand are the best creation of man ever since beer was invented! A power tool like the Dewalt DW723 needs a sturdy stand that is versatile, stable and complete.

If you're looking for a power tool like a drill that will fit into little nooks and crannies, let us tell you that the Panasonic 15.6 Volt drill/driver has been receiving rave reviews from the consumers. The batteries for this power tool can last a remarkably long time. The motor for this power tool is so versatile that it packs up to 390 inch-pounds of torque. It's hard to find another power tool to match that, frankly speaking.

Speaking of drilling, for power tools addicts, you've just got to get the Paslode 900420X IM350-CT Impulse Cordless Framing Nailer. The Contractor's Performance Pack comes with extra batteries, tools for charging the nailer in your car, 2 fuel cells, lube oil, degreaser cleaner and safety goggles too. This power tool pack is truly going to make your experience a very convenient one. Setting the power tool up is a no brainer and on top of that, this powerful power tool is extremely light - weighing in at only 6.9 lbs. Do your guys prefer yellow and black tools by DeWalt or maybe the blue of Bosch or Makita? Perhaps the red of Milwaukee tools, the grey of Porter Cable, or the black of Skil? What ever color your team uses, they have one thing in common; they have to get the job done. And to get any job done, you need power.
Power for tools comes in two main types; corded and cordless. There are benefits and drawbacks to each. Corded tools will work for as long as there is a connection to a generator or power grid. Their limitation is the length and size of your power cord and standing water on site. This can be overcome with a GFCI built into a power cord and a thicker wire such as a 12 gauge wire.
Cordless tools use batteries to provide power as long as they last. These power tool batteries have gotten to be as powerful as a corded tool. With the advent of multiple battery chargers, cordless power can be used on any jobsite. One of the best chargers around is by DeWalt and includes a radio for job site entertainment. Batteries can have a major drawback in that they can stop holding a charge for various reasons. These reasons include a memory charge buildup, a set number of charging cycles, and heat sensitivity. A battery memory charge buildup occurs on older Nickel Cadmium batteries that have not been completely discharged before recharging. The new Lithium ion batteries do not get this memory buildup as quickly and tend to wear out due to age or charging cycles. And when a battery will no longer charge, make sure to recycle it properly so it doesnt contaminate the environment.
Generators provide good power for a jobsite where a connection to the power grid is unavailable. Generators do have drawbacks in that they may surge due to power requirements from different simultaneous users and the maximum rated load of the generator. Knowing the power demands of your tools will help you to determine what size generator you need. Remember, just because there is an open outlet doesnt mean there is sufficient power. Generators also require regular maintenance and care and it may be wise to look at porter cable generator parts. Keeping a log for all your tools will help you to prevent damage and ensure many productive hours.
No matter what the color of your tools, make sure you choose one that will meet your power needs. Your jobsite and type of work will determine your needs. Dont forget that power is an integral part of your business success as down time can cost you serious money. The right parts and tools will save you money as you make money. Careful planning can help prevent injuries and keep your crew productive.

Exploring the Host of Features That Come With a Dewalt Table Saw

By Muna wa Wanjiru

For wood workers there are many different tools that are needed. Among the many items that you will find a wood workers shop is that of a table saw. Now while there are many good table saws that you can select the DeWalt table saw is extremely good buy. You will find that the DeWalt table saw like that of the other DeWalt saws are well made and the design construction will allow you to perform the various wood working tasks smoothly.

While the price for some of the DeWalt saws can be a little expensive you will be assured of making a good product out of them. You will find that each DeWalt table saw has a host of features that many past customers have declared to be excellent for the wood worker. The first item that should be inspected is that of the table where you will be working.

The surface of this DeWalt table saw is large enough to allow you to work on your wood work without having to worry about catching and injuring your hands while you are manipulating the saw blade. The table saw fence which is part of the DeWalt table saws built-in accessories will not only allow you to fix the wood piece to it but is will also keep you hand out of the path of the blade.

The ignition button that provides the power to start and stop for the DeWalt table saw is large enough for you to use your knee to off the saw once you have finished. This is ideal if you are in a position where you can’t off the saw with your hands. Also the ignition button is located at an easy height for your knee to reach.

The power that is required for each DeWalt table saw is different for each model. In general you can expect to see the power that is required to be about 13 amps. This may seem low but there is more than enough power for you to work your table saw. When you are looking at the saw features you should be clear on what items you need.

This way you will be able to choose the saw that you require without having to look through a number of table saws. You may want to ask the store personnel if there is any warrantee or a guarantee that you will be able to use.

The many different DeWalt table saws that are currently in the market may be somewhat expensive but they are quality products. When you buy a DeWalt table saw you can be assured of using a high quality product that will provide you with the power, cutting, ripping, or cross-cutting ability that you might need.

Dewalt Power Tools - A Little Bit Of History

By Johan Nickson

DeWalt is one of the largest power tool Manufacturers in the UK. Easily recognizable by there bright yellow casing and bold text logo, DeWalt power tools are renowned among building professionals as being top quality, often recommended from person to person.

In this article is it my wholehearted intension to tell you about the DeWalt company and where there come from. Some of the company’s history may surprise you.

The inventor Raymond E. DeWalt founded the DeWalt Company back in 1924. Mr DeWalt had invented a new power tool he named the radial arm saw. The radial arm saw is a circular saw mounted on a sliding arm. The radial arm saw revolutionized woodworking and Raymond became quite a successful man.

In 1949, the American Machine and Foundry Company bought DeWalt. However, AMF later sold the DeWalt brand to Black & Decker in 1960. During the early Black & Decker days may of Black & Decker’s high-end tools were branded with the DeWalt name as it was believed it carried more prestige. Which as we now know worked out very well. To this day Black & Decker aim at the DIY market and DeWalt the Professional market.

Black and Decker later sold off the radial arm manufacturing facility to two company executives. The original radial arm saws designed by Raymond E. DeWalt are still available from Original Saw Co.

DeWalt today, manufactures and sells more than 200 different power hand-tools and 800 accessories. DeWalt has its headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. However, they trade across the

DeWalt took over German high-end manufacturer ELU in 1994. This helped DeWalt to enlarge their assortment of cordless tools and other tools by utilizing ELUs high-tech revolutionary technology.

A cordless DeWalt drill is a great product if you are considering buying your next cordless drill. Cordless tools from the company are always of the best quality and you will want to think about buying more tools than just the cordless drill. Many DeWalt products like the DeWalt hammer drill, screwdriver and cordless torch are available on many online shopping sites. How cordless drill batteries have become more and more powerful, largely because of competition between other cordless drill makers, such as Makita and Panasonic. DeWalt are slightly behind the rest of the flock in this matter, as they have not released Li-ion technology yet.

Recently there has been a recall on all 18Volt cordless equipment as there has been a problem with the switch setting on fire. However, bless DeWalt, take your new machine into a service centre and they will replace the switch or the entire machine for nothing.

In summary, DeWalt project them selves as a high-end high quality tool manufacturer. Yet in reality, they are quite average. Originally, there cordless range was just re branded Black & Decker equipment, however DeWalt have very recently tried to lose this skeleton in the closet by starting work on there own high end gear. I wish them look as a company with a great history of creating professional high quality revolutionary tools don’t deserve to be just used as a name.

Anti-vibration Tools and Regulations

By Tom Wood

We've all heard of white finger/thumb and the dangers is posed to miners (in fact it still poses threats, just we don't hear so much about them these days I guess) or do we? Recent government findings show that 'frequently vibrating tools' such as handheld powered grinders and saws are capable of causing permanent damage to users. Now while this isn't a threat to your once every so often DIY enthusiast, the story could be very different for an operative working 8 hour shifts primarily using a drill.

One manufacturer taking this threat very seriously indeed is Hitachi Powertools and I was lucky enough to be invited along to a presentation from Hitachi on their new range of low vibration power tools. From the outset, the focus was on anti vibration and we were given an impressive enough show backed up by some of Hitachi's engineers (flown especially in) and the MD of Hitachi was also there to greet us.

Four different Manufacturers were compared and we were allowed to test-drive the new range ourselves. I was interested to see the performance particularly against the comparable Bosch and DeWalt products for the SDS Plus but it was a shame that Hitachi had decided NOT to include any DeWalt tools in the match-off. That aside, the Hitachi SDS was well balanced and felt good – was there a great difference in vibration though?

It's very hard to judge on just a couple of tests but there was a definite difference between the Bosch and the Hitachi although the Bosch did have an overall more solid feel to it. In fairness it's probably just a case of getting used to the new feel of the anti-vibration handle. Would I want to get used to it? Probably if I had my way I would still choose the Bosch SDS over the Hitachi (I do have some brand loyalty with the Bosch, although I've done my best to keep that at bay!), but do I have my way? Current legislation (and there's more to come) shows that vibrations are on the top of the list as regards to working conditions so the only choice for power tools may end up being those that adopt anti-vibration systems.

As for white finger law-suits, we'll have to see what happens in the coming months.

It just goes to show that all vibrations may not be 'good vibrations'.

What To Look For In A Good Power Tool.

By Robert Goldsmith

Think of your old saw, cutting was tedious, right? And now a power tool comes with a
motor. The addition of the motor reduces the work that the operator has to do, and
sometimes makes it possible for the operator to do things that are difficult or
impossible to do by hand. Common power tools include the drill, various types of saws,
the router, the electric sander, and the lathe.

Power tools are commonly used around the world, with many applications being found
for their labour saving convenience. Their name gains respect from professionals worldwide.

Founding of Milwaukee Power Tools
It all began with the close of the First World War and Henry Ford asking A. H. Pertersen, a young manufacturer, to produce a smaller and lighter, portable ¼" capacity power drill to make the manufacturing of his cars faster and more cost-efficient. Thus was the creation of the first of many innovative Milwaukee Power Tools, the "Hole Shooter".

A.F. Siebert joined Petersen to form the A.H. Petersen Company in 1922. A year later fire and recession closed the doors of that first company. Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation was then founded in 1924 by A. F. Siebert buying the original A.H. Petersen Company at auction and marketing the "Hole Shooter". This was the first light-weight, portable, one-handed ¼" capacity drill ever manufactured.

Milwaukee Power Tools - Innovators with a Mission
Milwaukee Power Tools were created to fulfill a singular mission; to produce the best heavy-duty electric power tools available for professional use. They continued their mission in 1949 with their innovative and space-efficient Right-Angle Drill, in 1951 with the Sawzall, the registered name for a reciprocating saw that could take care of any job and is the tool most professionals carry today to get the dirtiest job done.

Milwaukee Power Tools - Creating Industry Standards
The next revolutionary innovation of Milwaukee Power Tools came in 1970 with the Hole-Hawg, the registered name for a high-torque drill. And the next in the line of Milwaukee Power Tools that have become industry standards for professional electronic power hand tools was the Super Sawzall, the registered name for the newly engineered reciprocating saw that carried 10 amps and 0-32-SPM, the only one of its kind.

Milwaukee Power Tools - Built with a Purpose
With their mission in mind and power tools in hand, Milwaukee Power Tools pays rigorous attention to the needs of the professional user by confirming user research. By setting industry standards and benchmarking all the innovative designs of Milwaukee Power Tools, they offer "best in class" and top product ranking by the industry. They also set demanding laboratory and in-field user testing to assure the best product to job match.

At Milwaukee Power Tools the engineers don't just design a tool . . . they design a tool to do the job better.

Chicago Electric Power Tools

By Logan P. Shidel

With a limited budget for tools in your workshop, Chicago Electric power tools are an option to explore. Chicago Electric power tools offer a variety of tools to select from. Their line of tools is economically priced to give you power for your dollars. From their cordless drills to their largest floor model equipment, Chicago Electric power tools give you value for your dollar. They offer many tools you desire at bargain basement prices.

Chicago Electric power tools offer a wide range of equipment including corded and cordless equipment. They even have a few items for your workshop. Their band saw is popular with airplane kit builders. The offerings from Chicago Electric power tools include both corded and cordless drills, saws of all types, sanders and grinders. They offer both outdoor yard tools and household power tools. They even offer electric winches of various capabilities and an electric hoist. The variety that Chicago Electric power tools offer extends to some automotive related tools as well. A few bench based tools are offered also, like a compound miter saw.

Bands saws are used to cut thinner material into odd shapes with less wastage from the width of the blade. The thin flexible blade allows material to be cut with a radius curve smaller than you can get from a circular saw. With a band saw, you rotate the material as you cut it to achieve the curve you desire. It is possible to make a tool called a jig that will help you to achieve a very smooth curve reducing the amount of sanding needed to finish the piece.

The band on the band saw being thin and flexible has a tendency to break while you are cutting material. When this happens, shut the machine off and replace the blade. Usually the blade will break at the point it was welded together and will not shatter into pieces. When you purchase replacement blades, spend the money necessary to get the best you can find. The welds will be stronger and the blade will last you much longer than cheaper blades will. Be careful when pushing material into the blade. Do not wear any gloves or loose fitting long sleeves when operating a band saw. The blade has a tendency to catch such items and draw the flesh under it into the blade cutting quickly and deeply. Whenever operating any equipment that Chicago power tools offers, wear protective eyewear to protect your eyes from flying materials.

Chicago Electric power tools offers quality power tools at bargain basement prices. You might be lucky to meet someone who can guess the part from your tool's description when searching for a Delta replacement part. This is a bit of a risk.

It isn't difficult to locate the model number for your Delta Scroll Saw Part, Delta Band Saw Part, or DeWalk cordless screwdriver, even if you assume it is. You ought to be able to locate the model number on the cover of your manual and in various areas inside the book if you still have it. If you do not have your manual, you can find the model number on the tool itself on a sticker or nameplate. Keep an eye out for the letters DW or D followed by a bunch of numbers. With this detail, it will be easier for you to look for a replacement part.

Your Delta manual also has details on Delta parts. You must insist on the best parts when it's time to repair your Delta tool. The reliability and great performance you expect can only be from Delta tools. It is helpful to know part numbers. Frequently, you can examine photos that show the parts on your Delta tool. This can be very helpful if you need to figure out which part you need and the correct Delta part number. If you already have the Delta part number from your tool manual, you can save a great deal of time and effort.

You can save time by knowing the model number of your tool when looking for Delta parts online or ordering over the phone. Your manual and tool makes it convenient to find. This way you can go back to work right away because you'll surely get the right part for your Delta tool.

DeWALT Parts for Your Dad

By Jason Luke

Is Father's Day just another day for children to spend all their money and department stores to cash in on all the care being shown? That is how it seems to be now that the world has become so commercialized. Power tool companies thrive on fathers day as people look for their father's favorite brand of tools-DeWALT Parts. What is the history of this great day?

Mothers have their day, so fathers should have theirs, right? It has been told that Father's Day was just a holiday created to compensate for the fact that all the mothers were being praised and celebrated and the fathers were not. However, do you really think that the fathers would feel left out for not getting that praise? Well, yeah, I do too. But, this is not how Father's Day was started, believe it or not.

Let's go back in time to a state known as West Virginia. Ironically, the day that we celebrate our mothers, also known as Mother's Day, was celebrated first some fifteen miles away. Could it be that some fathers got jealous in the neighboring town and so therefore their sympathetic wives created a holiday for them too? That's what it appears to be but it actually wasn't like that at all. (I suppose it could be but there was no documentation.) In all reality, the true reason for the first start of celebrating Father's Day is not a happy one. In December of 1901, there was a tragic mine explosion where 361 men were killed. To honor those men, services were held the following July in 1907. This holiday did not become official until 1972 during the presidency of Richard Nixon.

After that, this special day become one to find a good gift for your father. The department stores are cashing in on it, but I don't think the fathers mind. Now the question is; what is that perfect Father's Day gift? Several prefer to get their father something in the electronics department. Hey, it is a commendable idea. Really though, Several of the father's out there today…at least the more experienced and elderly ones, would not know how to use the majority of things found in the electronics department.

So what is the best idea for the majority of the fathers out there? Power tools. Yeah, power tools. Well, you might be saying, "my day already has a bunch of power tools." Have you ever wondered though, how many of those power tools have had their routine check up? Meaning, many times dad's power tools don't run, or are missing parts.

That's why buying just the replacement parts instead of the actual tool might be the best gift. After all, they are less expensive anyway. Mother's Day has come and gone. While you were home visiting your mother and celebrating her day did you happen to look into your dad's power tool collection and see how many of his tools could use some Makita Parts? Or, if your mother is the bigger power tool user in the family, maybe you already got some Bosch Parts for her. After all, she probably does most of the work around the home anyway.

Discover Valuable Lawn Tools Tips

By Paul A Wiseman

There are several types of lawn tools that could ease gardening and yard work. And we find ourselves out enjoying our lawn or garden much more often when gardening work is easier. Here we will talk about some lawn and garden tools that can make certain tasks less difficult.

A weed planter can make pulling weeds much easier. You may not mind squatting down to pull weeds, but if you find yourself putting off pulling a weed for some great weed pulling session, may be you would benefit from the use of a weed planter. These clever equipments let you simply remove weeds without having to crouch or fight with weeds. A good weed puller is definitely a must have if you have back problems.

Lawn tools like lawn edgers help keep everything crisp and neat. Not only do edgers keep borders even and kempt, but can prolong the time you have before trimming excess growth in the garden. While keeping walkways safely clear of excess grass growth, edgers control grass growth of hardier strains like St. Augustine for the main lawn.

Aerators are a great way to easily aerate lawn and garden beds. There are simple straight forward aerators that are ideal for aerating lawns if you do not want to break up the turf. These will also cut down on the development of thatch. For gardens and flower beds I recommend something like the Garden Claw. These little tools are remarkable for their simplicity and their power. I once used one to do the entire first plowing session of a forty by forty foot double dug garden plot. It cut right through the thick grass as it crumbled the earth. Lawn tools like Garden Claws are also great for weeding around garden plants.

These are important tools to have if you don't have a lot of time to do everything manually. Planters can help shave off time if you have a busy planting schedule at different times of the year. You might want to install a timed sprinkler system for watering. If you have many garden or flower beds, consider using t-tape and a daily timer. This is inexpensive, conserves water and your time! So as you can see having a nice lawn is a bit of work of course but I could say it is worth the work. This is why it is also a must to use the proper lawn tools.

Paul A Wiseman is an Internet lover and really likes sharing his handy information with other people. If you are using sharp tools or power tools you must take extra precautions to avoid injury. Here are 7 tips to stay safe when you are working around your home:

If you are working with wiring be sure to turn off the circuit.

Unplug your power saw before you change the blade.

Keep your power tools dry and only plug them into grounded electrical outlets.

Read the instruction manual and follow the manufacturer's safety instructions before using a power tool.

Keep your fingers away from a power blade. Clamp down small pieces of wood instead of holding them.

Take off your gloves and roll up your sleeves when you use a power tool.

Wear eye and ear protection when you are working with a power tool.

Some of these tips may seem silly or like common sense to you when you read them here, but safety is a very serious matter. Thousands of people are injured each year by using power tools. The vast majority of these accidents could have been prevented if the person had followed and adhered to these 7 tips.

You also want to remember to lift with your legs and not your back. Be sure to have a helper if you are working on something strenuous. Try not to work with your body in an awkward position. Also, take regular breaks while you are working. You can always call a handyman if you need help completing a project at your home.

Dewalt Power Tools - Safety Tips

By Gary K Brown

With the rush of everyday life these days, safety seems
to rank in second place behind productivity. For instance, trying
to get a roof on a new home before bad weather sets in.
Naturally, you speed up to avoid weather damage. At the same
time, without even thinking about it, you overlook simple safety
issues that could lead to injury.

Dewalt power tools are preferred by alot of individuals and
companies to help speed up the job or task at hand. With that
in mind, lets look at some of the safety issues you should use
to prevent injuries from occurring while using your dewalt tools.

When using a dewalt grinder make sure all the guards are in
place. This prevents hot metal sparks from getting into your eyes
and burning your arms. You can also wear long sleeve clothing
and safety glasses while grinding to give added protection. If you
are using a wire brush accessory with your dewalt grinder safety
glasses are a must. The wires will break and could cause serious
eye damage. A pair of thin leather gloves is an option if the metal
your with is small and requires your hands to be close to the grinding
wheel or brush.

When using your dewalt circular saw make sure the blade guard
is working properly. Again protective eye wear should be used to
prevent dust from getting in your eyes. You should set the depth
adjustment so it just reaches through the board or plank your cutting.
This could prevent your power cord from being cut in to and causing
electrical shock. If your cutting out an opening for a stairwell, window,
or doorway it could prevent hitting a nail in the framework and having
pieces of saw teeth flying around. Dewalt also offer an electric brake
on some models. This prevents the blade from free spinning to a stop
when you let off the power.

When using your dewalt table saw make sure to keep the blade
guard attached in its proper location. Make sure to set the blade depth
the same as you would for the circular saw. If your using a rip fence
with you should have something to push the board or plank through
the last few inches of the cut. You do not want your hand or fingers
between the blade and rip fence, one slip could leave you with a
serious injury. Also, never substitute a grinding in place of a saw
blade on your dewalt table saw. Dust does settle inside the saw and
will catch on fire from the sparks of a grinding wheel. Use dewalt power
tools only for jobs they were designed for.

This is only a few of the products in the dewalt power tool line. Each
tool requires different safety precautions. You should always take time
to look at the worst case scenario of what could happen if you do not
apply the proper safety when using power tools of any kind. It will
prevent alot of serious injuries. Take care and work safe.

Power Tools History

By Russ Cartwright

Since the ancient Egyptians began using a hand-powered lathe centuries ago, man has striven to make arduous building and assembling tasks easier, quicker, and more efficient through power tools. We've come a long way from those sand-covered turning machines, but the end goal is no different from our desert-dwelling ancestors. Today, nearly every home in every industrialized country houses and uses power tools.

Even though the concept of the power tool has been around for a long time, it wasn't until the late 1800's when the first modern-era power tools became possible. The advent of electric motors made highly-efficient stationary and portable power tool technology a reality, and high-speed assembly lines made power tools both affordable and profitable.

The Bosch company was at the forefront of power tool technology in those early years. Founded in 1886 Germany by Robert Bosch, the company initially focused on automobile components with integrated electric parts, and was responsible for such developments as the first low-voltage magneto ignition. Before long, companies in other industrialized nations began developing the first electric power tools, and Bosch introduced its first power drill in 1932. Today, Bosch still engineers and manufactures automotive parts, and its power tool division has grown to include nearly every household and assembly tool on the market - including power drills, belt sanders, circular saws, and more. As part of the company's growth, it has acquired other successful power tool manufacturers that started during the same early 20th century era.

In 1923, American inventor Raymond DeWalt introduced the world's first radial arm saw, a sliding circular saw that could make long cuts with accuracy. One year later, he founded the DeWalt power tool company in Baltimore, Maryland; another company that has grown substantially over the last 85 years. At the forefront of portable power tool technology, DeWalt's power tools are revered by carpenters and homeowners alike for their long-life, durable cordless battery-styled power drill, circular saws, and other power tools; and the company currently manufactures over 200 types of power tools worldwide.

Founded in 1915 in Japan, the Makita Corporation has also staked its reputation on cordless, battery-powered power tools - most notably, the hand-held drill, which Makita introduced in 1978. Nine years later, the company had a full arsenal of cordless, professional-grade power tools for contractors. Today, Makita manufactures over 350 different power tools, both portable and stationary, and the pronounced teal color emblazoned on all of their tools is often mimicked by others trying to capitalize on Makita's reliable name.

The early 20th century proved to be a hotbed of power tool advancements, and many companies worked hard to develop profit-turning innovations that moved their products off store shelves and into people's homes. While the term power tool traditionally conjures thoughts of electric drills and sanders, machines like the pipe threader and utility pump are also considered power tools. This is the area the Ridgid company focused on when it was founded in Elyria, Ohio, in 1923. Still a leader in the plumbing tool industry, Ridgid now has a power tool division that focuses exclusively on contemporary power tools and has released its own saws, drills, and even air tools.

A.F. Siebert founded the Milwaukee Electric Tool Company one year later in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Known for manufacturing heavy-duty power tools, Milwaukee is best know for the 'Sawzall,' one of the most widely-used reciprocating saws in the world. Like their power tool manufacturing competition, Milwaukee currently produces portable and stationary power tools like circular saws, drills, band saws, grinders and sanders - over 500 different models in all. Unlike their competition, many of Milwaukee's power tools are released in both 120 and 230 volt models, drawing the line between household and commercial/industrial power.

Best known for the Skilsaw they invented in 1924, the Skil power tool company evolved out of the Michel Electric Handsaw Company when they entered the power tool market. Fueled by the ingenious circular saw invention, the company elevated itself to the upper echelon of the small power tool industry with jig saws, grinders, sanders, and a whole slew of handheld, cordless power tools. In 1996, the Bosch company purchased Skil but still keeps its power tools on shelves worldwide as one of the most popular power tool lines on Earth.

The Delta company has changed hands several times since it was founded by Herbert Tautz in 1919 in his Milwaukee, Wisconsin garage. Tautz focused on small tools but when Delta was purchased by Rockwell in 1945, the company made a profitable shift to the stationary tools - like planers and bench sanders - it's renowned for today. Delta isn't the only name this line has carried, however; Rockwell enveloped the company on takeover before selling it to Pentair, which re-introduced the Delta name before selling out to Black & Decker in 2004.

A veritable power tool power house, the Craftsman brand was coined by the Sears company in 1927. At first, the company primarily manufactured common hand tools like hammers and screwdrivers; but soon jumped on the power tool bandwagon and is now one of the top-selling producers of all power tools, both stationary and portable.

S. Duncan Black and Alonzo G. Decker founded the Black & Decker small machine shop in 1910 in Baltimore, Maryland; and the duo found their niche in the power tool industry by inventing the electric drill seven years later. The pistol-grip and trigger style drill became popular and is now a staple on construction sites and in households alike. Realizing the profit potential of power tools, Black & Decker has grown and acquired several other popular power tool brands, including DeWalt, Porter Cable, Delta, and Kwikset.

As industrialized nations become increasingly technology-driven, power tool production stands to increase as lightweight, powerful, and longer-lasting batteries try to match the power and reliability of corded power. Versatile contemporary models and thousands of accessories continue to make everything from woodworking to metal machining easier, more efficient, and more profitable for manufacturers, contractors, and homeowners alike. As power tools have become affordable for nearly everyone, only the hammer has resisted an electric redesign destined to change the way we work forever.

Cordless Drills - A Revolution in the Hands of a Common Man

By Smit Mathur

The innovation of light weight, powerful and rechargeable batteries like the Li-ion battery or the nickel-metal hydride batteries have revolutionised the way we do our repairing works at home, or the way expert repairers work. With the help of these batteries, many utility tools manufacturing companies have created utility tools such as the cordless drills. These drills are similar in function like that of a normal corded drill. These drills can exert equal amount of pressure and other features are also in tact. However, cordless drills are much more convenient than the normal corded drills, as there are no cords, so no question of a restricted reach.

There are two kinds of manufacturers of cordless drills. The first are those companies who manufacture cordless drills for home owners. In this category, we have companies like Ryobi, Skil, Craftsmen, Black & Decker and so on. The second are those companies which manufacture heavy duty cordless drills for professionals. In this group, we have companies like Bosch, DeWalt, Hitachi, Makita, Milwaukee, Porter-Cable, and Ridgid. The cordless drills manufactured by the latter companies are pricier and are strictly for professional use.

Among all the companies, DeWalt cordless drills are one of the best known and also the most commonly used cordless drills in the world. DeWalt has a long history of making every kind of utility tools, starting from the hammer to the drills. The company has also been making the DeWalt cordless drills for more than a decade.

But very recently, there have been some controversies regarding the recent supply of DeWalt cordless drills. However, the DeWalt company was professional and responsible enough to make a voluntary recall of many of its DeWalt cordless drills, as it posed alleged fire hazard. Although not a single incidence of injury or damage to property was reported, yet the company took the decision, keeping in mind its position as an important player in the market of utility tools.

With so many cordless drills brands available in the market, it is important to identify your usage and reputation of the company, before buying one. For home use, high voltage drills are not required. Any drill can do the work of nailing a hanging on your home's wall.

The Dewalt Scroll Saw and the Weekend Hobbiest

By Gary K Brown

The possibilities of making wood crafts and decorations
are unlimited, when you have the right tools, and patterns.
Dewalt tools are my preference, for the simple fact that they
are dependable and they have a large variety for just about
every job imaginable.

When it comes to making crafts and decorations the Dewalt
tool I am really impressed with is the scroll saw. This tool allows
you to cut some really detailed designs. You will need to have
a drill on hand so you can make a starter hole for inside cuts.
With this saw you can make wall hangings, clocks, decorations
to set on you mantel or entertainment center ect... Lets go over
a couple of these in more detail.

If your wanting to make a wall hanging with your dewalt scroll
saw. First you need to decide on the pattern. This can be
something you drew up yourself or something you purchased.
Second, you need to decide what type wood you want pine, oak,
cherry, walnut, etc... to get the look you prefer. Third, place you
pattern on the surface and trace the design. After you get it
transferred, take your dewalt drill and with a small bit drill holes
in the center designs to be cut out. Now your ready for your
dewalt scroll saw. Loosen the blade adjustment and place the
blade through one of the pre-drilled pilot holes and reattach it to
the saw and set the blade tension. Make your cut. Repeat this
step until all your designs are finished. Sand it down add a little
varnish and your done. You can also glue some colored felt on
the back to really bring out the artwork.

If you want to make a clock with your dewalt scroll saw. First
you need to get a battery operated clock assembly. Your local
craft store should be able to help you with this. Transfer your
design just like with the wall hanging. But, before you drill the
pilot holes you need to add in the place for your clock fixture.
Make sure you place it in your design where it will have enough
wood to hold it solid. Make your cuts, do the finish work, add the
clock assembly and you have just made yourself a hand crafted
clock.

For making a mantle it is basically the same as the wall hanging,
just leave a flat spot on the bottom of your design. Cut out a platform
and take your dewalt router and put a contoured edge around the
top and glue your designed piece in the center. And you have a
mantle piece.

I suggest sticking with single piece designs until you get the feel
of your dewalt scroll saw. Then you can move on to multiple piece
designs that need to be glued together. But with a little practice, the
possibilities of things you can make with this dewalt tool is unlimited.

The Dewalt Table Saw

By Gary K Brown

One of the most common Dewalt power tools you will
find in any garage, work shop, or new home job site is
the dewalt table saw.

The Dewalt table saw is one of the most frequently used
tools for cutting precise widths by using the rip fence. But
you can also use your dewalt table saw for cutting angles.
Angle cuts are made easily by using the miter gauge. There
is a built in slide on each side of blade for use of the miter
gauge.

For those not familiar with how a Dewalt table saw miter
works, its quite simple. There is a thick plastic angle gauge
attached to a slide bar at one pivot point. It has a threaded
handle that is used to lock the miter at the angle you choose.
There is also a pointer attached to the slide to give you the
exact angle that you are looking for. To set the miter to the
desired angle, loosen the handle, turn the gauge to the setting
that you wish cut and re-tighten. Place the slide in the slot on
the Dewalt table saw, hold the board against the miter and
slowly feed it though the saw.

For making precision cuts with your dewalt table saw you
need to use the rip fence. This is a guide that attaches to the
table that runs parallel with the saw. It travels from left to right
in a free smooth action and locks down at the desired width
you choose. You steadily guide the board you are cutting along
the fence to give it a nice straight finish.

You can also use your dewalt table saw to put an angled edge
on your boards. To do this use the bevel adjustment on the saw.
Set the adjustment to the desired angle by using the crank and
angle gauge on the front of your saw to tilt the blade. Use the rip
fence again to make sure to get a nice straight even cut. This is
great for making wooden boxes where you don't want the appearance
of over lapped boards showing on the corners.

A few safety precautions to keep in mind while using your dewalt
table saw. 1) Never use your hand to push the board through the
final few inches of the cut. Use a scrap piece of wood or a jig
designed for this purpose. 2) Use the height adjustment to make
sure the saw just reaches through the thickness of your material.
3) Always keep a guards in place, and in working condition.

Be safe, and have fun working with your dewalt table saw.

The Dewalt Reciprocating Saw

By Gary K Brown

Better known as the sawzall, to most Dewalt tool
users. The Dewalt reciprocating saw could be classed
as one of the most versatile Dewalt tools on the market
today. With the different blade attachments you can cut
through various materials with ease, hence the nickname
"sawzall".

The Dewalt reciprocating comes in both the Dewalt
corded tool and Dewalt cordless tool versions, allowing
for even more working applications.

With the Dewalt cordless version, as with all cordless
tools you have the ability to grab it and go in an instant.
This plays an important role in some situations. For instance,
our local fire department carries a dewalt reciprocating saw
in there rescue truck to aid them in certain emergencies.
Without always having a ready power supply, or the time to
drag an extension cord from there generator, the Dewalt cordless
reciprocating saw serves its purpose well for them. Although
it is not used on every emergency call, it is a valuable Dewalt
cordless tool for them to have on hand.

The uses for the Dewalt corded versions do not differ from the
dewalt cordless version, but you will need a ready power supply
on hand. The dewalt corded reciprocating saw could be a handy
asset in your workshop, garage, or maintenance facility where
electricity is on hand at all time.

The Dewalt reciprocating saw can also help around home.
With the long slender blades, this dewalt tool can assist in cutting
in tight locations. Have you ever tried repairing a busted water line
in a location where the conventional hacksaw was just to bulky to
do the job? The design of the blades for this dewalt tool can reach
some of those tight areas with ease. And best of all you can get
blades for this dewalt tool to cut almost any type material.

I would not recommend the dewalt reciprocating saw for cutting
1/8" or thicker plate steel, but for sheet metal or thinner metals
it will do a good job for you. This dewalt tool is also good for wood,
PVC pipe, copper, plastics, etc...

DeWalt Power Tools History

By Bill Mcyntire

DeWalt Power Tools - History in the Making

That is how Raymond E. DeWalt the founder started. A second generation construction and mill worker promoted to the head position of a woodworking mill, he was pushed by the owner to pinch the pay of the men in order to get more work out of them. Rather than see his men be paid less, in 1922 Raymond invented the first DeWalt Tool, the first radial arm saw that did the work of 4 men and cut his labor costs immensely.

DeWalt Products Co. - Manufacturer

Two years late Ralph created the DeWalt Products Co. to produce the first of the many widely manufactured and distributed the Tools, the Wonder-Worker, a table saw with radial arm.

Rapid Expansion

The Second World War brought government orders in 1941, for tools and machinery to comply with national defense and wartime requirements.

Power Tools Progress

Over the next 24 years they steadily grew and introduced to new products, the bench grinder in 1967 and metal cutting machines for ferrous and non-ferrous metals in 1971.

Spectacular Growth - Portable Power Tools

The most notable growth of the company came in 1992 when the first portable electric Power Tools and accessories were introduced. These were specifically designed for the baby boomers' housing boom and the increase need for residential contractors, re-modelers, and professional woodworkers.

Power Tools Cordless Revolution

Two years later again, in 1994, DeWalt launched a revolution with their cordless DeWalt Power Tools. These included drill/drivers, screwdrivers, impact drivers, impact wrenches, saws, flashlights, and the first combination drill/driver/hammerdrill.

DeWalt Power Tools Today

Today, there are over 200 electric Power Tools and more than 800 acessories, with new products being introduced every year. DeWalt Inc. makes a special effort to honor their founder and original genius by encouraging submissions of new ideas and inventions to keep DeWalt Power Tools the most innovative and reliable power tool manufacturer today.

For more information on Power Tools or visit http://www.directtools.com
